Rocking out in Hollywood

behind the scenes: creating the specialist plaster interior for the cipresso restaurant in the brand new seminole hard rock Hotel & Casino in hollywood florida.

The outside of the incredible Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL is truly breathtaking; a 450 feet high guitar shaped glass structure, it dominates the skyline and is a feat in architecture. Decorating the interior of the hotel's fine dining restaurant Cipresso with specialty plaster and murals was one of the biggest jobs I have undertaken in recent years; it would call for a dedicated team of specialist artists to support me, and detailed preparation before any paint pots were opened.

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

You can read more about the Cipresso project and see further photos of the finished restaurant on my commercial projects page. Below is a little glimpse into the work in progress and some behind the scenes photos from pre-launch.

CREATING CUSTOM PLASTER

I had five days to decorate the interior of this centrally-located restaurant. I was supported by my small hand-picked team of specialist artists. It meant lots of very busy days and plenty of hard work but it was all worth while.

For some parts of the job I used hand made tools to complete the project, as nothing else would suffice. At times our 'studio' got quite chaotic, but I was so lucky in this instance to have a team that tidied up after me while I worked! Never apologise for your studio.

Together we plastered all of the interior walls in this large venue, layering custom hand-painted murals on top of the speciality plaster. Then I single-handedly painted 26 mirrors in five days; each one sign-written with menu items.
